This 8 session class will cover the essentials for understanding Algebra II Function Notation and Parent Functions as well as all the foundational skills for mastering Polynomial Functions. Mathematicians will learn about parent functions from equations and graphs to applications in the real world. This class will also prepare students for the specific study of each function covered this year in Algebra starting with the use of exponents, the distributive property, and factoring. Although this is a formal class which will contain lecture portions, there will be time for questions and discussions within each session. Additionally, this class is designed for students to interact with the material through guided investigations and activities. Students will understand the big ideas of parent functions, develop basic skills for manipulating functions, and be provided with real world modeling experience. Each class will offer students direct instruction and plenty of additional practice including solutions will be provided for independent use throughout the week.
Students will understand essential algebra parent functions, notation, modeling, and regression.
This lesson will review simplifying expressions.
This lesson will review solving equations.
This lesson will review graphing and transformations of lines.
This lesson will review graphing linear functions.
Handouts will be provided. Graphing Calculator (TI-84 or similar)
