Class Experience

US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - Kindergarten
In this one-time class, students will review the 26 letters of the alphabet, their sounds and words that begin with each letter. We will have fun through movement, sharing, sign language, songs and a fun game of Bingo (prior to class I will email you your child's bingo board so you can print that out). This is a great class for preschool age through Kindergarten children who are eager to learn about letter sounds, sign language and interact with friends.

Here is a breakdown of this class.
     1. Greeting: We will start out by greeting each other by singing a hello song.
     2. Sharing Time: Everyone will have the opportunity to share a small object from our homes that begins with the same letter as our first names (ex: Ava shares an apple or James shares a jar of jelly). I'll have plenty of objects on hand just in case someone forgets or doesn't feel comfortable sharing. The goal here is to create fun engagement and connections to letters with their names.
     3. Movement: We will get up and move and make letters with our bodies!
     4. Song: We will sing a special letter sound song (on CD) that incorporates sign language. During the song, I will display the letter, pictures that correspond with the song and the sign language for that letter.
     5. Shared Reading - Together we will read Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. Students will read with me for part of the book to increase reading engagement and learning.
     6. BINGO game - We will play a game of alphabet bingo! Once you are enrolled in class, you will receive your bingo board. Please print and bring to class along with something reusable to mark your bingo board (pennies, buttons, cheerioes).
     7. Goodbye - We will sing a goodbye song and if time allows we may listen to the letter sound song again to practice the sounds and our sign language skills.

My classroom is a safe place full of engaging and fun learning! I am energetic, patient and kind. I try to encourage lots of student output in different ways to include all types of learners (song, movement, sharing, reading). There is no required experience or knowledge learners need. Come ready to have fun and learn some important pre-literacy skills.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their understanding of the following pre-literacy skills: letter names, letter sounds, phonemic awareness skills (sound), and phonics.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
A small part of our class will include a movement section in which students will have the opportunity to dance and make letters with our bodies! Be sure your child has a safe space near their workspace to move their bodies safely.
Supply List
1. Bingo Board - You'll receive as soon as you sign up for class. Please print and bring bingo markers (buttons, pennies, cheerioes) or a pencil/crayon to mark the bingo board.

2. Students are encouraged to bring an object found in his/her home that begins with the same letter as their first name. Example: James brings a jar of jelly. During class, we will share our objects and talk about the beginning letter (students are not required to share...only if they feel comfortable. And I will have extra objects on hand in case anyone forgets).
