In this ongoing course, students will focus on a set of eight sight words for four weeks before moving to a new set. Not in second grade? No problem! If your learners are ready for words such as "enough" or "because," then they are ready for this course. Each week we will learn a song or chant to help reinforce the spelling of one or more words in the set. We will practice spelling the words and putting them into context. We will also play a game or games each week with the words in the current set. Games include Kahoot, Wheel of Fortune, Connect Four, and Concentration! At the end of each class, I will provide the learners with the song or chant lyrics for that week so they can continue practicing at home. Let’s become word experts with songs and games! Teacher expertise and credentials
Welcome! I retired in May, 2020 after thirty years in education, and I am so excited to continue teaching on Outschool! I have experience teaching students in first grade, fourth grade, and fifth grade. I also taught Reading Recovery and served as a reading interventionist, an assistant principal and a testing coordinator. During my years in fourth and fifth grade, I specialized in reading and writing. Reading is my passion, and I am so excited to share that passion with your child. My lessons will focus on reading comprehension strategies and grammar.
I have a Bachelor’s of Science degree from Texas Woman’s University in Elementary Education with a minor in English. I also hold a Master’s Degree from the University of North Texas in Educational Administration. I am ESL certified and have taught online ESL classes for two years. My husband and I live on a ranch in East Texas, so I spend much of my free time helping him with the never ending duties ranch life requires. We also enjoy spending time with our four beautiful grandchildren.
I believe that when students are engaged, they will be productive learners. I can’t wait to provide an engaging and fun learning experience for your child!
