Learners are requested to read and spell the sight words learned to a grownup each day throughout the week after the class.Class Experience
US Grade Kindergarten
Is your learner beginning to read? If so, they need to know “sight words”, or words they should know just by looking, without making the sounds of each letter to figure it out. Most children begin learning these sight words throughout the kindergarten year. This multi-day class will work on a different set of five or six sight words in the Dolch Primer list each week. Students should have mastered identifying most of the 26 letters of the alphabet to be successful in this class. Knowledge of the previous sight words in the pre-primer Dolch list is helpful, but not necessary. Every student will get a turn to SEE/ SPELL/ SAY each new word, then write it in the air or on paper or a whiteboard at home. We will then play a variety of games including Spot It (find the correct word among several on the screen), Shape Puzzles (choose the letters in the sight word to go in the matching shape according the the size of each letter), count the number of letters in each word, and reading sentences containing target sight words with picture clues! Week 1: he, was, that, she, on Week 2: they, but, at with, all Week 3: there, out, be, have, am Week 4: do, did, what, so, get Week 5: like, this, will, yes, went Week 6: are, now, no, came, ride Week 7: into, good, want, too, pretty Week 8: four, saw, well, ran, brown Week 9: eat, who, new, must, black, white Week 10: soon, our, eight, say, under, please
Learning Goals
Learners will improve their recognition and spelling of common sight words learned in the second semester of kindergarten.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have a variety of classes to offer including kindergarten and first grade reading/ phonics skills, story read alouds and discussions, and how to care for guinea pigs!
I have taught almost all ages of children for many years, from infant through sixth grade, as well as been an early intervention (birth to three) parent educator and online ESL teacher. I homeschooled my twin boys for the year before they entered kindergarten and it was a most wonderful time in my life that I would love to share with other families and children!
I have been married to my high school sweetheart for twenty years. We have a musically and artistically talented seventeen year old daughter and smart and funny identical twin twelve year old boys.
I am so very happy to be a part of the Outschool world and look forward to seeing your awesome learners in my classroom!
