Class Experience

In this course, the students will learn the basic origami folds. They will fold 6 sonobes individually, following the instructions. They will then learn how to put the pieces together to make a Sonobe cube. They will also identify the faces, vertices and edges.

No prior origami experience is needed. Each fold will be taught as the teacher folds along with the students.

Learning Goals

Students will be able to create their own cube using 6 sonobe units.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
I am an educational service business owner and a teacher. I run a learning center in Suwanee, Georgia. I quit my 17 year long IT career a few years ago to get into teaching, as making a difference in the way our students learn is my passion!

I have published a book on Active Learning which provides a structured framework for the children to learn anything. My methodology is interactive and fun with an emphasis on having the students create a mind map for every topic they learn. Creating a visual capture of the topic learned makes the students reinforce the learning through their own efforts and thus, their retention is longer and the recall is faster.

I teach a variety of courses - Math, ELA, Science, Social Studies, Art, Origami and Yoga for elementary grade students. I strongly believe that our responsibility as teachers is to make sure that we kindle the natural curiosity in the students when we introduce a topic to them, provide the tools and methods to achieve the required learning and make it an enjoyable experience. When the kids enjoy the process of learning, the required learning will automatically happen. That is what I aim for in every class I teach and it gives me immense pleasure to see the progress some of my students have made over the past couple of years. I look forward to helping your children succeed in their learning endeavors!
