In this class, students will learn about a geometric shape called a fractal. The specific fractal we will explore is called the Sierpinski Triangle. Students will discuss properties of triangles while constructing their own Sierpinski Triangle using paper, pencil, ruler, and protractor. I use a brain-based teaching style to keep learners engaged throughout the lesson and to maximize retention of new material. As a life-long lover of math, my enthusiasm for the subject is contagious. Learners who struggle with math anxiety find my style of teaching unintimidating.
Learning Goals
Students will:
- practice their multiplication facts (3's)
- learn/review properties of equilateral triangles
- use a ruler and protractor to construct the Sierpinski Triangle

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi there!
My name is Marcie and I LOVE math. It breaks my heart to see young students experience aversion, frustration, and anxiety when learning math that I have made it my number one goal to be an ambassador for mathematics. The biggest reward as a math teacher is to see my students gain confidence in their ability to tackle any problem.
I graduated from Kent State University in 2005 with a BS in Education. I am currently licensed in Ohio to teach math, science, and reading to grades 4 through 9. I taught for four years in the brick and mortar classrooms of the public school system and then two years as a Title 1 teacher for an online virtual charter school. Since then, I have started a family and am currently home schooling my three children.
