Description

Class Experience

Learn basic cooking and baking skills
Understand how to follow a recipe and measure ingredients
Discover how to make healthy and tasty meals
Practice teamwork and communication while cooking with others
I'm a passionate cook with years of experience in the kitchen, and I have successfully taught cooking skills to children in classroom settings. My love for food and teaching combines to create a fun and engaging learning environment, where I aim to inspire young chefs to explore the joys of cooking.
No homework is required for this class, but students may want to practice making the recipes at home with the help of their parents or guardians.
General Materials Needed for Each Session: Mixing bowls Measuring cups and spoons Cutting board Knife Spoons and spatulas Plates or bowls for serving Paper towels or kitchen towel Additional Materials and Ingredients for Each Individual Session: Session 1: Fruit Salad Variety of fruits (e.g., strawberries, blueberries, grapes, kiwi, pineapple, melon) Honey or maple syrup (optional) Lemon or lime juice Session 2: English Muffin Pizzas English muffins Pizza sauce or marinara sauce Mozzarella cheese Optional toppings (e.g., pepperoni, mushrooms, bell peppers, onions, olives) Baking sheet Oven mitts Session 3: No-Bake Cookies Quick-cooking oats Sugar Unsweetened cocoa powder Butter Milk Vanilla extract Peanut butter or alternative nut/seed butter Wax paper or parchment paper Saucepan Session 4: Pasta Salad Pasta (e.g., rotini, penne, or bowtie) Fresh vegetables (e.g., cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers) Cheese (e.g., feta, cheddar, or mozzarella) Italian dressing or homemade vinaigrette Colander Session 5: Smoothies Variety of fruits and vegetables (e.g., bananas, strawberries, blueberries, spinach, kale) Liquid base (e.g., milk, yogurt, almond milk, or fruit juice) Blender Glasses
Learner progress will be informally assessed through participation and completion of the recipes during each session.
2 hours 30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Supervision is required during all sessions to ensure the safety of learners in the kitchen. Parents should be prepared to assist with tasks such as using knives and the stovetop. Use of the oven is not required for this class. Please refer to the Learner Supply List for a comprehensive list of materials and ingredients needed for participation in each session. Learners are required to obtain their own ingredients, but rest assured, all items are common and can be easily found at your local grocery store.
