Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 5
Intermediate Level
There is no need to skip learning and writing practice over holidays or seasonal breaks. Festive seasons and holidays are just another reason to celebrate with fun and meaningful writing activities. Students love to write about things that excite them, and writing with interest makes writing meaningful. This class will offer a high interest, expository writing experience related to building snowmen in the winter season.

This class is suitable for students who are familiar with writing paragraphs and are ready to practice and sharpen how-to writing skills with a fun, winter themed activity and writing experience.

This class allows students to practice a specific form of expository / informational writing. We will begin with a review of the format and method of ‘how-to’ writing with slides I will share on the screen, group discussion, and full group brainstorming.

After our review, students will use a worksheet to practice placing all the elements of a how-to essay in the correct order to reinforce what we just reviewed. We will do this activity together.

Students will then use graphic organizers provided to plan out their own expository essays on how to build a snowman. Once students have completed their graphic organizers, they will write their essays on their own paper.

Students will have independent writing time to complete their writing activity, while having the opportunity to conference with the teacher for support and guidance.

After writing time, each student will have the opportunity to share what they wrote with the class and receive positive feedback. It’s a fun, productive class, and students leave happy.

If time allows, students can use the provided worksheet to design their own snowmen to go along with their how-to essays.
