Join us for 8 weeks of introductory robotics using Ozobot Bit! The additional purchase of an Ozobot Bit is required for around $60 (plus shipping & handling), but this robot can keep your students engaged in robotics for years to come.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Students will need individual access to an Ozobot Bit robot for this course. These robots cost an addition $60 or so (plus shipping & handling), depending on the e-store at which you purchase yours (see link in the "Supply List" section below). Compatibility with Ozobot Evo is not guaranteed.
In this introductory robotics camp, we will focus on logic, critical thinking, and some programming concepts using a small, line-following robot named Ozobot. The best part is that Ozobot can be programmed using different colored markers! Students learn basic code commands and use them to complete printable challenges. We’ll also be exploring some simple real-world applications for robots, sensors, and coding. Students do not need any previous knowledge about the subject to find success in this course – we start from scratch. However, students must purchase their own Ozobot Bit robot for the duration of this interactive, hands-on course.
This course will be taught by an instructor from Fun Learning Company (FLC). All of our FLC instructors, take a personable and hands-on approach to teaching students. FLC instructors assess the level of experience students have when starting this course and teach each student based off of his/her various speeds of progress. Our instructors attend to the individual needs of students while pushing them to expand their knowledge throughout this 8-week Ozobot course.
Every session will consist of daily goals, instruction, guided project time, and Q & A. The instructor will lead students through the camp, but parents will still need to help supervise their students at home. Students will also have access to online course videos and additional projects they can work through on their own, so they can have limitless content!
Below is a breakdown of the activities we will complete and concepts we will learn in each session of the course.
Week 1 -
Students will learn how to calibrate Ozobot and keep the robot clean and working throughout the course. Then we will begin drawing paths for Ozobot to follow.
Week 2 -
Students will learn about simple probability by watching how it affects the decisions Ozobot makes while following lines. Then we will learn how Ozobot sees and makes use of colored lines.
Week 3 -
Students will learn how Ozobot reads color combinations so that we can color blocks of codes for Ozobot to follow. Then we will learn how Ozobot uses the Direction color codes to follow specific paths! Students will also be given their first challenge to have their Ozobots complete before the next session.
Week 4 -
Students will checkout the previous challenge and discuss how they attempted or completed it. Then we will improve our directional awareness by watching how Ozobot puts color codes together and how, for some codes, the position of each color block can make a difference in how Ozobot behaves. Students will also be given their second challenge to have their Ozobots complete before the next session.
Week 5 -
Students will checkout the previous challenge and discuss how they attempted or completed it. Then we will learn how to use some of the special color codes to add more functionality to what Ozobot can do on paper. We will also spend some free-time creating original paths and challenges for Ozobot.
Week 6 -
Students will add even more color codes to their knowledge base and talk about favorite codes and the different use cases. Then we will work through a new challenge together to prep students for a harder challenge to have their Ozobots complete before the next session.
Week 7 -
Students will checkout the previous challenge and discuss how they attempted or completed it. Then we will learn about Ozobot's counter and how the robot can keep track of time and points, which will prep students for an interesting, new challenge to have their Ozobots complete before the next session.
Week 8 -
Students will checkout the previous challenge and discuss how they attempted or completed it. Then, together, we will review everything that we have learned throughout the course and discuss all the fun parts and difficult parts we have encountered. We will also discuss how we'll use what we've learned in other aspects of our lives, as well as showcase any original projects we have made.

Overview: students will learn the basics of programming using a robot named Ozobot Bit. We will learn terminology, solve challenging problems, and use colored markers to code instructions onto paper for Ozobot to read and follow.

Fun Learning Company (FLC) is a Michigan-based company founded in 2011. We began by offering on-site robotics classes at public schools. We ran these classes for several years, then started offering robotics summer camps. Over the span of the following few years, our library of year-long courses and summer camps had expanded from just a few robotics classes to include drone building, computer building and programming, electronics and circuit construction, and many other hands-on engineering courses and summer camps. We are constantly in search for new avenues to pursue and ideas to incorporate into future programs.
FLC organizes programs designed to enhance public, private, and home school education — primarily catered to elementary and middle school students, though we welcome older students as well. We provide hands-on learning opportunities in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM). We focus on alternative education, working with parents and students in non-traditional, hands-on classrooms.
