Class Experience

US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 2
Intermediate Level
As a former elementary classroom teacher for 27 years, I am very passionate about teaching and enjoy sharing my excitement about learning! I take pleasure in teaching and I am patient working with the children. Each child is unique and no two learners are alike. One student may learn quicker than a classmate but I believe all children have the potential to learn. I have high expectations for all students and I do not limit their learning. I will encourage all my students to grow to his/her fullest potential! I love to teach children and get them excited about reading and their learning. I want to help my learners to have a strong foundation in reading so they will never experience the struggles I went through as a child, with no phonics instruction. I want to engage the learners in activities so they will enjoy learning.

In these classes, I will use screen sharing of interactive slides I have created. Two of the slides will be downloadable activity sheets the teacher and students will do together in class. Students will be introduced to 3 letter blends per lesson in this Ongoing class and a 2 letter blend or digraph. The students will be actively engaged in their learning. First, the children will hear and see a story with the blends/diagraphs. Next, the students will practice writing the 3 letter blends. Students will decide which beginning letters they need to make the word. The students will need to look at the word in the next activity and find another that begins or ends with the same 2 letters blend/digraph. Last, the students will help the teacher decide which word is needed to complete the sentence. All students will get the opportunity to answer questions and share in the class. ESL students are welcome! I have taught ESL students for many years in the classroom and Online with students from Asia. Students are welcome to join at any time to this class.

**Digraphs are two letters that make just one sound. Example: SH in the word “shirt” and WH in the word “whistle". On the other hand, blends are two or more consonants that BLEND, but each sound can still be heard. Example: Str as in "street".

Weekly, two activity sheets can be printed that will be used in the class. If you do not have a printer, a blank piece of paper will work. Every student will have many opportunities to help give answers in class and be actively engaged in their learning. No prior knowledge is needed to enroll in this ongoing class. These class sessions do not build upon one another so, therefore, no prior class is needed to enroll at any time. Students will increase the number of words they can decode by adding common digraphs and blending other letters.

The following order below is what Blend family we will start with. This class starts over after we have completed the cycle listed below in case you start after the session first began.

The following is the order we will do the lessons.
August 1-7 Week 1: STR and ST Beginning Blends lesson 1
August 8-14 Week 2: STR and ST Beginning Blends Lesson 2
