Fractions tend to be tricky tricky! Fun Fantastic Fractions Bootcamp is here to help. This course is beneficial for students learning fractions for the first time, as a review, or as extra support to what they are learning in school. In class, students will be presented the information, have the skill modeled, get a chance to solve with the teacher or their peers, and work independently. Before learning begins, students will take a pre assessment to show their knowledge of fractions. Students are NOT expected to have any prior knowledge on the topic. The quick assessment will just be used for planning purposes. Students will be introduced to fractions and the academic vocabulary using various chants and movements. Students will often watch a video/song to help students understand and remember important information and steps. Each week will have a different focus building on the last. Students will use virtual or printable manipulatives (provided by the teacher) to help better understanding throughout the learning process. ______________________ Session 1: Introductions and Pre-Assessment, Conceptual Fractions and Vocabulary Session 2: Identify Fractions- amount in a group, shaded portion, number line Session 3: Fractions on a Number Line Session 4: Comparing Fractions with Models Session 5: Comparing Fractions without Models Session 6: Comparing Fractions Continued Session 7: Equivalent Fractions Session 8: Whole Numbers as Fractions Session 9: Review Session 10: Review and Post-Assessment

Teacher expertise and credentials
Welcome to my page!
I am a public school teacher in Central Florida. I received my degree in Elementary Education with a Spanish minor from Rollins College with a Reading Endorsement. I have experience teaching in 2nd and 3rd grade. In addition to teaching, I have tutored students in 1st through 5th grade reading and math, both virtually and in person.
Outside of school, I provide extra reading support to students learning to read. We work on phonological awareness, phonics, and sight words. With that, I also include spelling and writing. As students grow older, their reading grade is less about their ability and fluency in reading, but their ability to answer questions about the text and analyze it. I use videos, games, and other activities to help hone those skills. In addition to reading, I help students with math skills. It is important that students not only know what to do when solving a math problem, but understand what they’re doing. I understand that all students aren’t going to understand something when it is explained one way, so I provide multiple ways to get the students to understand.
It is important to me that students are engaged and active in their learning. Not only will they have fun, but the practice they get will mirror what is expected of them in class and state assessments as they grow older. Having this extra exposure to that type of questioning will make testing a less stressful experience.
When I'm not working with students, I enjoy playing with my dogs and spending time outside in the fresh air!
