Class Experience

Welcome to a full school year of Preschool curriculum!

This class is designed to teach your young learner all Preschool basics. Whether your child is just entering Preschool or is about to enter elementary school, they will feel prepared and confident with the skills they will master in this class. Your child will learn skills such as letter names, letter sounds, number recognition, shapes, colors, counting, and beginner writing skills. They will also be exposed to more advanced skills such as sorting, patterns, rhyming, and story comprehension. All skills will be taught in an engaging and interactive way. Even if children do not master all of these concepts, just having exposure and practice in these areas is so beneficial when entering elementary school.

In this class, each week's lesson will focus on a letter and number. Each day will follow a consistent schedule. We will begin by discussing the calendar, followed by either letter or number talk. This will include songs, games, and activities that encourage learning literacy and math concepts. We will practice writing and building our letters and numbers in different ways with different materials. Most days will include storytime based on the letter of the week, season, or topics related to monthly themes. While learning all preschool curriculum, students will also learn important lessons in taking turns, listening, and following directions. In this class, students will have multiple opportunities to participate in class if they feel comfortable doing so.

Parents will receive an email every Sunday night that will include any handouts needed for the week along with a list of any supplies needed for activities. It is always a good idea to have basic supplies handy each day before class begins. Suggestions are: paper, pencil, dry erase board, markers, blocks, scissors, and glue. Basic craft supplies are: glue, scissors, construction paper, crayons, or markers.

Literacy concepts taught throughout this course are:
Handwriting, Uppercase and Lowercase letter Recognition, Beginning Letter Sounds, Rhyming, Opposites, and Story Comprehension.

Math concepts taught throughout this course are:
Number Recognition(0-20) and Counting (0-30), Shapes & Colors, Patterns, and Sorting

Monthly Themes:
September - Shapes, Colors, and sorting
October - Fall, Pumpkins, Sequencing
November - Community Helpers, Patterns, Fall
December - Rhyming, Pets, Gingerbread
January - Winter, Space, Arctic Animals
February - Shapes, Sequencing, Colors, Construction
March - Spring, Rainbows, Fairy Tales, Weather, Rhyming
April - Zoo Animals, Farm Animals, Transportation, Opposites

This is an ongoing class, so students can come in at any time during the school year. New concepts are taught each week, so prior knowledge of previous classes is not necessary.

This class does have a minimum student requirement. If there are not 3 or more students enrolled by Monday, I will let you know and give you the option of withdrawing or being transferred to another time slot. Thank you for understanding.

Supply List
A class notebook would be helpful for the students to practice writing the letter and number of the week. Kindergarten lined paper, pencil, crayons, or a dry erase board with markers. We might not use the supplies in every class, but they will be helpful to have close by just in case. Students should have access to basic school supplies such as scissors, glue, and blocks for building and sorting.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have been a classroom preschool teacher for the last 15 years. In addition to that, I have taught in the online space for the last 5 years. My years of experience have taught me classroom concepts that work. I believe that preschool offers a great foundation for the love of learning throughout a child's educational years. I am motivated by seeing children have fun while learning new things every day. We have been given a great opportunity to turn screen time into something productive and fun for young learners. I will utilize this time to help your child grow, learn, and become a confident young person.
