US Grade Preschool - Kindergarten
I will provide a full curriculum geared toward Kindergarten students. In the first 9-weeks, students will be taught a keyword and motion for each letter of the alphabet to solidify letter name/letter sound connection and memorization. Students will learn basic techniques for blending letters together to make words. Students will work on letter sound automaticity as well as letter name automaticity. Students will work on rhyme and word families. Students will work on correct articulation for letter sounds. The class will be structured following Phonics First. I have been trained in this curriculum and will use materials from this. The focus will be on automaticity, as well as many connections to establish a solid memory of letter name and letter sound. We will begin blending very early on, helping students to understand the reason for learning letters. We will engage in learning games, lots of repetition, and songs. My teaching style is to have very high expectations, while providing very much support as needed. I do believe that students learn through fun and will be silly with them to promote engagement and high levels of learning. No prior experience is needed, as we will start with Layer 1 of the curriculum and will slowly build. It is important for students to come ready to engage and expect to be actively participating throughout the entire class. Week 1: Day 1: Intro to ABC keywords and motions.
