Assessment will consist of informal observation of discussion, writing assignments, and periodic "quizzes". All assessments will take place in class except for the writing assignments which will be partially written outside of class.Grading

Analyze narrative elements, craft your own Character Sketch, Autobiographical Incident, and Short Story, and participate in discussions and activities centered around the novel's themes and symbolism. **Weeks 5-8: Expository Writing and Homecoming by Cynthia Voigt** Discover the world of expository writing alongside Cynthia Voigt's "Homecoming." Dive into Introduce Yourself!, Process Essay, and Compare and Contrast Essay assignments while exploring the novel's plot, character development, and literary devices. **Weeks 9-12: Persuasive Writing and Milkweed by Jerry Spinelli** Master persuasive writing techniques inspired by Jerry Spinelli's "Milkweed." Craft your own Letter for Social Change, Personal Essay, and Analysis of a Short Story while dissecting the novel's themes, character motivations, and narrative structure. By the end of the twelve weeks, students will have compiled a diverse writing portfolio comprising twelve distinct pieces. Not only will they develop a strong foundation for academic writing, but they'll also enhance their communication skills for lifelong success. I'm excited to teach English, Language Arts, and Social Studies through Outschool. I've been teaching in one form or another for over twenty years. I have taught all ages from early childhood to adult in public, private, and higher education school settings. I have a Master's degree in English and another in Montessori education. I have certifications in Montessori education (6-9 and 12-18) and Teaching English as a Second Language.
I believe in getting to know the student as a whole person, and meeting them where they are for the greatest learning success. I strive for an engaging and inspiring learning experience.
