I will provide 5-10 example problems for homework after each class. This is voluntary and will be reviewed at the beginning of the next class. If a student is struggling, they can post their concerns on the classroom wall for more clarification. Homework should not take more than 15 minutes per assignment.Class Experience
US Grade 5
This class is interactive, where I will break concepts down and check for understanding throughout the class. I scaffold and adjust my pacing to suit the needs of the students. I will use visuals, mnemonics, real-world examples, discussion, and guided notes, to ensure a deep understanding. Student participation is expected. I strive to make learning fun and instill confidence in the student. I use the “I do, We do, You do” model to encourage retention and build confidence. After teaching a concept, I will explain a real-world example, guide the students in solving a problem, and then let them solve one independently to ensure they understand the concept. Each class will begin with a 5-minute breakdown of the previous class’s homework. This is to make sure that everyone retained the lesson and can complete the assignment without help. At 25 minutes into class, we will have a 5-minute brain break where the students can do a physical activity, math riddle, or go to the bathroom. Students need to have taken 4th-grade math or have been tested on a 5th-grade level. This class is perfect for supplemental lessons to a homeschool curriculum or online class. The following is our tentative schedule (I will update the schedule on the first of each month): Week 1 (September 5 & 7): Understand place value Week 2 (September 12 & 14): Use place value to read and write decimals Week 3 (September 19 & 21): Compare, order, and round whole numbers and decimals Week 4 (September 26 & 28): Add and subtract whole numbers and decimals Week 5 (October 3 & 5): Multiply whole numbers Week 6 (October 10 & 12): Divide whole numbers Week 7 (October 17 & 19): Multiply decimals Week 8 (October 24 & 26): Divide decimals
