In this course, learners will acquire knowledge about numerous musicals and their historical context, both in the era the musicals were created and the eras they take place in. Weekly lectures, posted on Mondays, will at times utilize readings from a script, songs, and videos from shows. The weekly themes will be: Week 1- The Rocky Horror Picture Show (Sex, Disguise, and Pre-Stonewall Homophobia). Week 2- Hedwig and the Angry Inch(Glamour and Dealing With Injustice In Style) Week 3-...
Students will learn that social environments shape art and culture, and musicals change over time with those social customs.
I have experience in taking classes on crucial conversations and reading body language and between the lines to know when conversation needs to take a turn or stop entirely. I also have taken classes exclusively dealing with race relations and sexual topics surrounding literature, including musicals.
No live meetings, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Some topics such as violence, sex, and profanity will be brought into class discussion. There will be warnings in the class chat and students are not required to respond to any prompts or lessons if they do not feel comfortable. Sensitive topics will be brought up respectably and will not be delved on, but rather will highlight the themes needed from class, and moved on from delicately.
