Class Experience

In this ongoing course, students will have the opportunity to form friendships and interact with other learners. During this time especially, kids need to be able to socialize with others in a safe space where they feel welcome. This class will give students the opportunity to meet others around their age and discuss similar interests. I will usually begin class with a get to know you game. We will then discuss a specific topic for the week. Topics may include interests such as hobbies, arts, food, daily life activities, or any similar interests that the students may have. I will prompt the discussion and then the students will have time to share their thoughts about that particular topic. Students are encouraged to share similar interests with one another and I will ensure that the discussions are appropriate. I will also be contributing to the discussion with the students, but I want them to be able to use the time to get to know one another. This is also a class to where students can work to overcome social anxiety. If a student is uncomfortable sharing in the beginning, they can listen in, write in the chat, or join in when they feel comfortable to do so. Talkative students are welcome too! Students are also encouraged to be respectful to one another so that they feel comfortable in a safe space. Students will be reminded that this is a safe space and that their thoughts are welcome. Students will also be encouraged to praise one another and to not put each other down.
