Class Experience

Welcome to the Friendship and Fun Club, where we can meet on a regular basis to build up our friendships and have lots of fun! We will socialize, set and work toward goals, share quick and low-stress lessons about relaxed topics, and practice encouraging and giving positive feedback to one another.

Class Goals:
--Create a supportive peer community online. Supportive peers are important for all kids, and can be especially valuable during difficult and uncertain times.
--Create a structured, reliable community that can meet regularly, no matter what conditions may happen in our communities. During the ongoing pandemic, and in light of the fires, flooding, and other challenges we face, it can be difficult to enjoy a predictable and regularly scheduled activity time--even though we know how important this is for our kids.
--Provide social opportunities for kids.
--Provide fun, laughter, and joy for our learners.
--Promote positive interactions among peers, with a specific emphasis on developing kindness and the ability to encourage one another.
--Provide an opportunity for learners to create and meet personal goals with regard to schooling or interests and hobbies. Allow for them to share progress updates in a positive setting.

This class is open to homeschoolers, virtual learners, public schoolers, cyber schoolers, and anyone in between. Right now, kids need a recreational, lightly educational, social, supportive meeting place. I am so glad to offer this to your child!

To the best extent possible, this class will be learner-directed by their current topics of interest and topics of interest in our world. My degree in Early Childhood Education allows me to be very comfortable with a child-focused, learner-led class format, which lends itself perfectly to a friendship and fun club! However, the class still has a nice structure to ensure flow and harmony.

Hello! My name is Kathleen M, but everyone calls me Miss Kathleen. All of my classes are safe and inclusive places for all learners.

Teaching is my job, but it’s also my favorite thing ever! I have taught everything from dance, to sign language, to English as a second language, and my students range in age from toddlers to adults. My degrees are in early childhood education and performing arts, I have a TESOL certificate, and I am proud to say that I was chosen as Teacher of the Year while working as a pre-kindergarten teacher. Recently, I have enjoyed homeschooling my own kids, and volunteering as a sign language interpreter at our church.

I believe that teaching is about creating a rapport between student and teacher, and that by forming positive relationships we can pave the way for creative learning and achievement. Learning should always be fun, and any subject is rich with lessons that connect to life in many ways.

When I am not teaching, I love gardening, playing games, and going to the ocean with my family and our little rescue dog. Hope to see you soon! :)--Miss Kathleen
