As a homeschooling mom of 4 boys, I know more than anyone that KIDS NEED TO SOCIALIZE!! And--they have a great time doing it. :) In this class, I will facilitate conversations on the following topics: Jan 8th: Legos Jan 15th: Video Games Jan 22: Bey Blades Jan 29: Favorite Sports Feb 5: Wimpy Kid Book Series Feb 12: Star Wars Feb 19: NO CLASS Feb 26: Hotwheels March 4: Remote Control Toys March 11: Trips/Vacations March 18: Pokemon March 25: Video Games II April 1: NO CLASS Learners are welcome to bring something to class to talk about, to share with everyone, or to show. This is a great way to get conversations going. I will also ask the learners what they want to discuss and I will add new topics or change the topics as the weeks go on. Topics will always be listed in the class description so that learners can be prepared before class begins! We will all learn a lot from each other! This class is terrific for many life skills including social skills, public speaking, and (perhaps most importantly) developing friendships. While participation is key in this class, I am the mom of a very shy/reserved child and I know that kids don't always come out of their shells immediately. If you have a more reserved child, this class will 100% be a great experience for him. I will make sure all students are comfortable while encouraging them to make connections with the other students. I look forward to hanging out with these youngsters and watching them get to know one another!
Learning Goals
Students will use their social skills to connect with other learners. I will facilitate fun and healthy discussions on various topics. Children will learn from each other and practice social skills/public speaking.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi, I'm Alicia, a homeschooling mom of four boys! I LOVE teaching music and language arts!
I hold a BA in English with a two-year music concentration from Stetson University. I started my career in the editing world, editing STM (science, technology, and medicine) texts for several years before jumping feet first into opening a music school. I have been teaching music for 22 years as a private music instructor and also in pre-K-8 school settings. Of course my love for reading, writing, and the English language is always a passion! I am a published poet and am currently working on an early chapter book series called “Flick”. I also love teaching language arts to our homeschooling community here in NY. I have been balancing my love for English and music for a very long time!
Every child has his or her own learning style. I pride myself on being fun, relatable, and intuitive when it comes to reaching all types of learners. My passion is to bring not just information, but a love of music and the English language to my pupils.
Here's a fun fact about me: I love to bake! I can't promise homemade cookies during your online sessions, but I can promise that I look forward to seeing you in one of my classes! :)
