Learner progress will be assessed by the teacher daily during each lesson as they observe that students are becoming comfortable, independent and fluent in their reading. Comprehension will be monitored regularly through questions and answers as well as activities on the slides that require students to demonstrate understanding. Writing will improve as students keep a regular journal that will show their progression over time. Parents can also assess their own child's progress as they become more independent during their participation in class, their own independent reading, as well as how they are using learned information and reading techniques outside of class.Class Experience
US Grade 1 - 3
▬▬▬▬▬▬ ⭐Course Overview⭐ ▬▬▬▬▬▬ Welcome to our ongoing French language class! In our class, we'll be using the Reading A-Z series to explore a new story every week. From Levels D to J, we'll follow fictional characters as they embark on different adventures, covering topics like family, school, friends, and more. ▬▬▬▬▬▬ 👩🏫Teaching Style👩🏫 ▬▬▬▬▬▬ At Polyglots Academy, we believe that learning should be enjoyable, which is why we'll be taking a fun approach to our lessons. We'll delve into each adventure, discussing what's happening, exploring our curiosities, and relating what we learn to our own experiences. Throughout each lesson, you'll have the opportunity to interact with the teacher and your classmates, through talking, writing, reading, and completing activities on the slides. 📅 Are you looking for a class that meets 1x, 2x, 3x, or 4x per week? Send us a message about a class frequency change. 💬 We can also accommodate learners and families wanting full immersion vs. bilingual classes. Send us a message to learn more! ▬▬▬▬▬▬ 🌍Target Student🌍 ▬▬▬▬▬▬ The program we'll be using is designed for developing readers. At this level, readers may display different characteristics such as attempting to sound out unknown words, recognizing more frequently read words by sight, and focusing on decoding which may leave fewer cognitive resources for comprehension. However, we'll work together to build your vocabulary and understanding, which you can use to make useful connections to your daily life. ▬▬▬▬▬▬ 💬Language of Instruction💬▬▬▬▬▬▬ This is an immersion class, which means lessons will be taught primarily in French. However, teachers will use English as necessary to guide students. ▬▬▬▬▬▬ 📚Weekly Course Examples📚 ▬▬▬▬▬▬ In addition to the Reading A-Z program, we'll also be introducing some supplementary stories after the first four weeks. These stories will cover topics like what to wear, pets, and more. Each class will consist of some letter activities, vocabulary review, story reading, comprehension, and writing. Some writing will require a paper, pencil, crayons, and/or markers at home, while some writing will be on the screen, which will require students to access their writing tools on their computer (Zoom Annotation). Examples of weekly texts: ⭐ Week of Dec. 3rd - My Neighborhood by Veronica Angel ⭐ Week of Dec. 10th - Getting Around the City by Kira Freed ⭐ Week of Dec. 17th - Katie and Katie by Katie Delbridge and Katie Moore ⭐ Week of Dec. 24th - Do Not Eat That by Rus Buyok Students are welcome to join and leave at any time, as there is no previous information needed in order to succeed in the current week’s lesson. If you’d like to know exactly what week we are in (and that week’s topic), please send us a message to inquire. We’re excited to guide you on this journey of learning French and reading at a developing level.

Doris Sandra Avoum:
Bonjour!
I’m Doris and teaching languages is my passion and my full time job. I’m from Cameroun and I live in USA. I love speaking French. I have studied French for about 18 years and I have been teaching it for 3 years. I have a Master degree in Medical Anthropology from the University of Yaoundé 1.
In my experience as a teacher, I’ve met people with multiple learning goals, so I can say I’m a flexible patient teacher and I’m able to adapt a lesson to different ways of learning and needs. I love interacting with students and being part of their learning process.
During my lessons, I prefer to use a communicative approach whether to study vocabulary, pronunciation or active grammar. That is, in other words, I focus on the use of the language and try to create a 100% French speaking environment progressively.
Regarding grammar teaching, I use both an inductive and deductive approach. For instance, you can discover the rules through different activities that require your engagement and interaction or I can explain to you any aspect of grammar by giving you the rules and practicing with examples and exercises. Sometimes we can do one of these ways or both in the same lesson, taking into account your learning style.
