This course will involve practicing articulating oneself in French. Communication is fun in spoken language. My teaching style is engaging and participatory. I strive to create a classroom environment that has a serious and comfortable sense of purpose. Learners should have taken three or more years of French classes. I will introduce phrases and encourage each student to take calculated risks by using them in a conversational setting. We will practice pronunciation together by taking turns so that everyone has the opportunity to participate in asking and answering questions. Students will share the newly acquired skills in their own fun, creative, and innovative responses. Our conversations are always original and usually a bit zany. Week 1: Introductions, basic conversation, commonly used expressions, practice dialogues, and the vocabulary of shopping, food, and baking, with grammar lessons woven in. Conversation practice and questions at the end of each session. Week 2: Continue and build upon lessons from week 1, practice survival French vocabulary, and then use those expressions in conversations. Vocabulary dealing with food and drink, money, travel, and more useful expressions for getting around in France. Week 3: Continue to build on lessons from weeks 1 & 2 and begin practicing conversations about trains, tickets, seating, luggage, people, and verbs associated with travel. More basic grammar is practiced while discussing airplane travel and required documents, followed by conversations expressing opinions, desires, wants, and needs. Finally, we will use all of the lessons from previous weeks to have deeper conversations where the student may express their wants and needs as they learn vocabulary dealing with automobile transportation. Students will also review grammar concepts and sentence construction as they develop speaking skills.
