Class Experience

In this 4-week flexible class, learners will meet Latika, a young girl living in India, who wants to build public toilets to help women and girls in her village. Enterrer la lune is a graphic novel written by Andrée Poulin, French-Canadian author. This class is great for students who have French experience (or Francophone) because the class will be taught in French. so students' work will have to be in French.

Together we will read through this book over four weeks while participating in both classroom and individual assignments. Each week a video lesson will be posted discussing the reading, key vocabulary and explaining the week's assignment. Students will then complete various activities and will engage with others learners through the Outschool platform.

Here is an overview of the class:

Week 1: Pages 9-35
Classroom Activity: In this activity, students will play a game of Quizizz.
Individual activity: Imagine that you are one of the characters. Write a 2-3 minutes monologue on what the character feels and thinks. Then, record yourself reciting this monologue.

Week 2: Pages 36-63
Classroom assignment: Imagine that you are the main character Latika. Write a letter to M. Samir to a for a public bathroom in the village and why it’s important. Post your letter in the classroom.

Week 3: Pages 64-97
Classroom Activity: In this activity, students will make a list of 5-8 world problems they would like to solve and why.
Individual assignment: Students will have to create an artwork (drawing, painting, collage, etc.) based on a world problem they choose from the previous classroom activity.

Week 4: 98-119
Classroom activity: Students will have to share their appreciation of the story (short paragraph) and post it in the classroom.
Individual assignment: Students will have to complete a work on the characteristic of the main character.

Although this is a flex course, student interaction in the classroom are important in order to get the most out of the course.

Each week, I will also provide personalized feedback to students' classroom and individual activities via a video response.
