Fractions - Converting, Adding, Subtracting, Multiplying, and Dividing
In this class students will learn about fractions. They will learn how to simplify, add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions with both common and uncommon denominators, as well as how to convert proper, improper and mixed fractions.

👋 Welcome! This is a 5 week math class all about fractions which meets 2x/week. This class has been created for 4th grade students entering 5th grade as well as 5th grade students entering 6th grade who need to review and practice fractions. Class will be started in a FUN way to introduce the unit, which will get students excited for their fractions classes!🎶Students will learn a fractions song and a cup song (instrumental) that we will play to open the unit. I can simply/reduce fractions. I can add and subtract fractions with common denominators. I can convert improper fractions and mixed numbers. I can add and subtract fractions with uncommon denominators. I can add and subtract mixed numbers. I can multiply proper fractions. I can multiply fractions by whole numbers. I can multiply mixed number fractions. I can divide proper fractions and whole numbers by fractions.
The majority of my time as a teacher has been in fifth grade! I am confident and well-versed in the 5th grade curriculum and the expectations for students.
For each class practice activities will be assigned. Although practice homework is not mandatory it is highly recommended.
5 files available upon enrollmentLesson 1: Please bring a plastic cup to class. Lesson 2 - Lesson 10: Please come to class prepared with a notebook or paper (preferably grid paper) as well as sharpened pencils and coloring pencils.
Throughout the unit I will informally assess students in class, which I will communicate with parents when necessary. At the end of the unit in the 10th lesson students will take a graded test to display their learning.
2 hours per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
- In this class I will use Youtube, students do not need an account. - Students will have the option to complete work digitally in Google Slides (if printing is not preferred), students will need a gmail account to use Google Slides. - Students will also use a website called Toytheatre, they do not need an account to access this website. - During our classes I will use screensharing often to display lessons and activities.
