Class Experience

In this class, students will learn what fractions are, how we can see them in real life, how to find equivalent fractions, and how to add and subtract fractions. Finally, we will end by playing fraction games to show our knowledge!

This class is ideal for third graders and fourth graders. As a fourth grade teacher, I have taught so many students to love fractions and feel confident when solving problems with them!

Class 1: Learn the basics of fractions! We will explore what a fraction is, the parts of a fraction, and see fractions with food! We will play a fraction Kahoot!

Class 2: We will explore equivalent fractions and make this tricky concept, easy and fun! We will play Baambozzle that will help us practice this skill and show what we learned!

Class 3: We will add and subtract fractions and complete word problems with fractions!

Class 4: We will play games with fractions to show our knowledge like Kahoot and Jeopardy!

California Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
Hi there!
I have been a teacher for 12 years in elementary school and currently teach 4th grade. I have experience working with all grade levels K - 6 and enjoy learning and working with students of any age. I have my Bachelor's Degree in elementary education and teaching credential from Loyola Marymount University. I received my Master's of Science Degree from Mount St. Mary's University where I completed my thesis in math word problem solving. I am a National Board Certified Teacher which means I am certified to teach in any state in the United States.

As a twelve year veteran teacher, I been trained in Common Core, Reader's and Writer's Workshop, and English Language Learner instruction. My students have a 90% pass rate in both math and reading on state standardized tests.

Teaching Philosophy:
I believe every student can learn and grow their brain. My teaching style involves a lot of student discussion mixed with strong modeling and guided practice. I encourage students to share their ideas, ask questions, make mistakes, and try something new. In any class I teach I promote kindness, respect, and having a growth mindset.

Some fun facts about me:
-Before teaching, I was a camp counselor and softball coach for five years
-I was a Girl Scout for 12 years and still work with Girl Scouts Troops today!
-I love Target and Starbucks
-My favorite books are Harry Potter, Boxcar children, and any Read Alouds I do with my class
-My favorite sports are softball, baseball, and volleyball
-My favorite video game: Mario Kart (I always pick Toad as my driver)

What I love to teach:
-All academic subjects but my favorite is Math
-Book talks with popular books (ex. Warrior Cats and Babysitter's Club)
-Celebrating holidays, learning about dinosaurs, and any other fun topic!
-More fun classes in the future!
