Welcome! This supplemental reading camp will meet for 4-days and is best suited for 5th - 6th-grade students. Week 1Lesson 1Day One: The Griffin and the Minor Canon; Part OneDay one will include: ~ An introduction of myself, camp goals and expectations. ~ Explanation of vital vocabulary. ~ Review of the literary focus: Characterization, motives, relationships, and inferencing. ~ Review of the reading comprehension questions (test-taking strategies). ~ An interactive narration and annotation of the first half of the passage. All participants will be encouraged to join in the read aloud. This will help me determine understanding and fluency development.Lesson 2Day Two: The Griffin and the Minor Canon; Part TwoDay two will include: ~ A summary of day one. ~ Completion of the second half of the passage. ~ Guided discussion of the plot. ~ In-class assessment; multiple-choice and writing prompt. ~ Any unfinished assessments will become independent homework.Lesson 3Day Three: The Water of Life; Part OneDay three will include: ~ Explanation of vital vocabulary. ~ Review of the literary focus: Theme, characterization, perspective, and motives ~ Review of the reading comprehension questions (test-taking strategies). ~ An interactive narration and annotation of the first half of the passage. Homework Offered
I plan for a significant portion of the work to be addressed, discussed, and completed in class; however, some formative reading and writing opportunities may be expected beyond the boundaries of our online class time. I ask my parents to please encourage their learners to accept these independent challenges, as the purpose of these assignments is to promote literary growth.0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
