This course will teach the basics of sports recreation, with a particular focus on leadership, marketing, mission, vision, event management, planning and budgeting, facility design, law, and ethics. Students will have a lecture/discussion style class meeting with weekly assignments and course project due online. Class meetings will have face to face discussions and slides to visually present information. Class Sessions: inlcude a brief welcome period, overview, discussion and in class exercises, a review of material covered and assignments for the week. Week One: Introduction and Sports Marketing-Homework: three online short answer questions and project introduction, course project topic due Week Two: Leadership, Marketing, Mission and Vision, Business Law and Ethics-Homework: three online short answer questions and project outline due Week Three: Event Management, Planning and Budgeting-Homework: four online short answer questions Week Four: Facility Design, Sports Psychology, and project help prior to due date-Homework two online short answer questions and project due

Students will learn through discussion, visual presentations, peer to peer discussions, examples, in-class exercises, homework, and a course project.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have coached numerous sports over the past 30 years on various levels and have been a certified referee. Assisted with Special Olympics and adaptive sports. I hold a degree in Psychology and an MBA in Sports Management. I also hold a 150-hour master teacher certificate for teaching English as a second language courses. Furthermore, I have served as a college counselor for almost 5 years advising students and families on the college acceptance process. I have taught middle school, have been an academic administrator in a Pre-K 12 school and was a founding director of a Learning center. I was a college athlete and have a passion for sports!
