Teacher expertise and credentials
Welcome to my profile! My name is Amber. I come to you from the great state of Ohio. DO I hear an “OH-IO! Go Buckeyes.”
I am a jack of many trades. The most important being ... “Wife” to an amazing man and “Mom” to our 4 crazy, awesome children, ages 23, 20, 17, and 13. I also am a full-time public high school Math Teacher, tutor, and at one time an online ESL teacher. The list doesn’t stop there… My husband and I also serve as pastors of a local church .
My love for teaching started at a very young age. I remember playing teacher all the time as a child. My first teaching experiences were teaching Sunday School and providing tutoring to elementary/middle school students while still in high school. After high school, I went on to obtain my Bachelor’s Degree from The University of Findlay in Mathematics (Secondary Education, grades 7 - 12). My husband and I returned to our hometown after receiving our teaching degrees to pursue teaching careers. I am currently starting my 25th year of teaching math at my hometown high school and my husband has since become the IT director for the district. Through the years, I have taught every level of math, including Pre-Algebra, Geometry, Algebra 2, PreCalculus, and AP Calculus AB/BC. While in the middle of my teaching career, I also went back to school to get my Master’s Degree for Walden University in Middle School Mathematics (grades 6-8). My credentials also span to obtaining more than 45+ graduate hours in various educational areas, including Personalized Learning, Classroom Management, How the Brain Works, Google Apps, Technology - Based classes, etc. I also serve as the high school’s LEO Club Co-advisor, which helps get our students involved in volunteering within both the school district and community, as well as serve as the Math Department Lead.
I also have experience teaching younger aged children. I just recently stepped down as the Lead Children’s Ministry Pastor after numerous years. During this time, I served as a curriculum administrator and developer, teacher, and nursery administrator for the children’s classes, ages newborn - 10. I developed curriculum for various ages and trained many new teachers, all while also teaching in the classroom or nursery. Also, I previously served as an Online ESL teacher at a well - known company, where I taught English to students ranging from ages 4 - 14, as well as providing tutoring at the local community center for all ages.
When I am not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family. I enjoy watching my children, nieces, and nephews participate in competitive sports, including football, golf, soccer, basketball. By the way my nephew just became a "Buckeye." He has joined the OSU football team. As a family, we spend much of our summer months in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan at the lake house, where we love boating, wakeboarding, water - skiing, jet skiing, tubing, or just relaxing by the lake. Last, we also love Disney World! FAMILY is very important!
As a teacher… My passion is to make LEARNING FUN! I want my students to laugh and smile in class, all while learning at a high level with lots of rigor, stretch, complexity, and confidence! You COUNT With ME!
