US Grade 5 - 6
Intermediate Level
This class is designed to strengthen division and mental math skills. Students will be provided with a handout that lists all of the divisibility rules so that students can have it as a guide as they learn how to use them. Students should look over the handout when they join the class and then keep it for reference throughout the class and beyond. Students will be given the opportunity to ask questions about the divisibility rules, but they are truly learned best through repetition. Thus, in this class we will use Kahoot! to practice using the divisibility rules to quickly determine whether or not a given number is divisible by another. Any questions that students struggle with will be discussed in further detail during the class. The teacher will explain how to use the corresponding divisibility rule in order to solve the problem. Students should have a good understanding of the concept of division and should have some experience solving division problems. However, they do not need to be proficient. In fact, this class may help them become proficient!
Learning Goals
Students will build on their division and mental math skills.
Students will learn the rules of divisibility.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a nuclear engineering graduate from South Carolina State University with a Bachelor's in Science. I began graduate school for a PhD in Nuclear Engineering, but due to health issues I decided to leave school and pursue my passions elsewhere--like here!
Thus, it may go without saying that a lot of classes I offer are math and science (particularly nuclear science) related.
If you have anything specific you would like to see a class on, please feel free to message me, and I will let you know if I feel comfortable teaching that topic (if I do, I will make it the next class I start offering!). Also, feel free to request class sections at other times than when I offer them; I will be sure to keep my availability updated and will be happy to see you at any of these times! If you have any questions, please feel free to message me.
Much of my teaching background is in tutoring. I have listings set up for private lessons, so feel free to message me if you are interested! You will notice that my classes are a lot shorter than others, both in the length of each meeting and the number of weeks my classes run. This is because I break up concepts into their integral parts so that students can come for exactly what they need help with and skip over the parts that they are superstars at. :) Therefore, be sure to read the class descriptions carefully and select the class(es) that will best help your student!
I hope to see you and your students in class soon!
