Beginner - Advanced Level
Throughout the course, students will explore photography through a combination of live Zoom classes, interactive discussions, and hands-on activities. They will be introduced to key photography concepts such as light manipulation, shadow play, and black-and-white photography. Students will photograph various subjects including architecture, plants, wildlife, and people, while learning how to apply mathematical concepts like proportions and angles to their work. Each week, students will engage with both creative and academic skills, writing photo-based essays, calculating scales in photos, and studying ecosystems through their camera lens. Learners will participate in discussions, interactive lessons, and receive live feedback from the instructor. Each session will include visual slides and live demonstrations, with opportunities for students to try skills immediately, share their photos and receive personalized critique. This structure ensures that students practice photography skills while connecting their learning to core academic subjects in a hands-on and creative way. This course is part of a series offering a complete and comprehensive photography curriculum for all grade levels, Kindergarten through 12th grade. All of these courses meet grade-level academic standards for photography and integrate other art, English, math, science, and social studies skills. Learning Goals
Learners will understand how to use natural and artificial light creatively in photography, exploring contrast and shadow play.
