Flute for Beginners, Flex Schedule

What is a Flex Class?
This class has no live meetings: each meeting which is about 30 minutes will be recorded for your student to watch when it works for you during a 5 week period (what Outschool calls flex schedule).

What will be encouraged to do?
1. Practice the flute--  Students should practice what was taught in class (I'll give the page numbers for the book during the recording) to feel more comfortable with the new material.
2. Record-- Students can record a practice exercise or songs gone over in class and submit them if they would like feedback.  
3. Questions-- Of course, any questions during the 5 weeks can be added to the discussion board or through Outschool emails.
4. Discussion/ Activity-- Each week, I will include a discussion board post/question related to that week's material and students are encouraged to participate to engage in the material in order to enhance their time in this class. Students will be encouraged to share a video project of a song from the book (under 2 minutes) and each other share encouraging feedback. We will also do some "I have, who has" games throughout the course.


What will your student learn?

Week 1: Learn how to put a flute together, what some parts are called, how to hold it, how to clean it, and understand what some symbols on a music sheet mean

Week 2: Learn how to play B flat, A, and C

Week 3: Learn how to play D, F, E flat, and G

Week 4: Learn how to play some of "Hot Cross Buns," "Good King Wencelas," and "Jolly Old St. Nicholas"

Week 5: Learn how to play some of "Old McDonald" and "Jingle Bells"

Recordings will also include information about reading notes and music signs.

What do the student needs:
A flute and the following book: We will be using one book that you need to purchase if you are to play the songs and practices that I do for the recording: "Standard of Excellence: Enhanced Comprehensive Band Method (Book 1- Flute)" by Bruce Pearson  (ISBN 0 8497 0750 1).
