Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 2
Beginner Level
The goal of this class is to empower younger students to enjoy writing through attaining skills and having fun. We will focus on nouns, adjectives, verbs, and even a few adverbs. Students will incorporate the different parts of speech to write creative sentences. Students will learn about complete and fragmented sentences. We will practice capital letters and punctuation marks.

Writing isn't only the physical action of a pencil to paper. Creating a story starts with imagination. Students will use the skills learned to create a collaborative story. The stories will be shared orally. (no writing for this activity) This practice contains many learning opportunities including academic and social. We will focus on the elements of a story as well as building onto other students' ideas.

Students will also write sentences. Students will encourage and help each other. We will make grammar corrections focusing on capital letters, complete sentences, and punctuation marks. Spelling will not be focused on. Students may use phonetic spelling. I will use differentiation to meet learners' needs. For example, some students may benefit from sentence frames. Molly ate _________________ and _____________ for lunch. First, they will add nouns. Second, they will add adjectives. With this scaffolding method, students will build their writing skills to become independent writers. I differentiate the activities to meet the needs of the students.

Requirements: Students should be able to write a handful of words. Spelling does not matter because we are focusing on grammar, creativity, teamwork, and elements of a story.
