Class Experience

In this one-time drawing course, students will learn the basics of drawing a sunflower using soft pastel chalk. Students will learn techniques of using soft pastel chalk, such as blending, adding textures, shading, layering, etc. Students will also learn techniques of drawing a realistic sunflower. Students will draw one large sunflower with a pastel blue sky. I will demonstrate each step for students and have students complete that step along with me. Students will first sketch a sunflower and then use soft pastel chalk to bring their sunflower to life! My classroom is a calm, fun, and creative environment where discussion between teacher and students is encouraged. I ask students questions throughout the lesson to check for student understanding. Students may also interact with each other if they want to share what they have learned during class. Students who enroll in this class should be patient, passionate about art, and be okay with getting a little messy. Soft pastels are very "chalky" and will get dust on your hands, clothes, and wherever they are set down. Students who enroll in this class should have a basic understanding of drawing shapes (e.g., circle, square, triangle, rectangle, oval, etc.). Students do not need previous knowledge of using soft pastel chalk to be enrolled in this class, but should love art and trying new art mediums!
