18 live meetings
18 in-class hoursHomework
2-4 hours per week. Homework is weekly...there are 3 videos per week, 30 questions of homework, and the Edpuzzle videos have quizzes embedded.Assessment
Learners are assessed by way of Edpuzzle Quizzes informally to see how to focus the sessions, and there are tests and a quarter test at the conclusion of the course.Grading
Grading will be offered as a way to measure proficiency in the course. Before moving to quarter 2, students should have a proficiency int he quarter 1 content. Students can retake tests in order to achieve this. 90-100% A 80-89% B 70-79%C 60-69%D Students need to have at least a 60% in order to move to the quarter 2 material.Class Experience
The content aligns with common core standards, but the beginning part of Algebra 1a covers the prerequisite topics to make sure students are ready to build their algebra skills. There are 3 topics learned per week. It is as follows: Week 1: Order of Operations Evaluate Expressiosn Evaluate Expressions with Fractions Set-Ups Week 2: Writing Expressions Writing Equations Fill in Tables from Equations Week 3: Fraction-Decimal-Percent Review Comparing Real Numbers Ordering Real Numbers Week 4: Simplify Square Roots Simplify Square Roots, Coefficients Properties of Real Numbers Week 5: Combine Like Terms and Distributive Property Simplifying Expressions Simplify Expressions, Applications Week 6: One Step Equations One Step Equations with Fractions or Decimals Writing and Solving One Step Equations Week 7: Two Step Equations Two Step Equations with Fraction Coefficients Word Problems with Two Step Equations Week 8 Multi-Step Equations (focus on distributive property) Multi-Step Equations (focus on combining like terms) Multi-Step Equations with both distributive property and combining like terms Week 9: Equations with Variables on Both Sides (basic) Equtions with Variables on Both Sides (Multi-Step) Equations with Variables on Both Sides (Special Cases) There is a Quarter Test to conclude this piece of the course. Students may retake it, but must pass in order to move on to the second quarter of this course.

I have been teaching algebra for over 20 years! I love teaching and helping students be more successful. I understand things like math anxiety and struggling learners, so I take a "small skills" approach to teaching. This means that instead of long in-depth lessons, it is very focused on small skill mastery before moving on. I also spiralize my curriculum so that students get mixed review practice to maintain those skills that they have already mastered throughout my course.
I love crafting and spending time with my family! In the summer, we are either camping or at a ballfield somewhere.
