Description
Class Experience
This flexible schedule class continues on the material from Intro to Singing Technique for the Young Contemporary Singer, while giving the student flexibility of schedule and the opportunities of the online classroom. Class materials for each week will be posted before Tuesday. Materials each week will include videos to watch, a PDF file of the week's material, video and audio files of the week's vocal exercises, and homework assignments which will include both a discussion question...
Students will continue to learn a professional vocal technique. We will continue to train the voice each week by practicing vocal technique exercises and how to properly do these exercises. We will continue to practice the musical patterns and vocal technique exercises from our Intro class while taking these exercises higher and adding some more difficult exercises. We will review our singer tools and learn a new singer tool every week. We will apply our vocal technique to carefully selected songs for young singers from the popular, Disney, and Broadway song repertoire. Students will receive individual feedback personally each week to ensure proper production of exercises and song melody. Students will continue to practice using the voice throughout the chest, mix and head voice registers in both exercises and song melody. Students will become more familiar with singing in the different parts of the voice. The focus of this class is on building healthy singing technique as we continue practicing vocal technique exercises, and learn new singer tools each week. Prerequisite: Intro to Singing for the Young Contemporary Singer
I have worked with this professional vocal technique since 1998. I have taught young singers in the NYC metropolitan area since 2012 and have seen their voices develop with freedom throughout the range of the voice. I have observed hours and hours of voice lessons of children Broadway singers in NYC using this technique. I love helping young singers understand their unique voice and sing with confidence. I also love the online classroom, both as a student having completed a Master Certificate in songwriting with Berklee College of Music's online school and as a teacher, as it creates a rich learning experience for students with its many resources and ability to enable communication with other students.
There are written and recorded homework assignments each week. (These are optional but encouraged so that individual feedback can be given). Assignments are due on Mondays. Students will receive video feedback by the teacher the following day.
PDF files of each week's lesson are provided in the classroom. Audio files of vocal exercises, song lyrics, and links to song videos are also provided in the classroom.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Singers submit weekly recorded video assignments so that the teacher can provide individual feedback and guide the individual singer. Written homework discussion questions are posted in the classroom weekly. Teacher will post written feedback to written homework in the classroom. Recorded homework assignments can be posted in the classroom or sent to the teacher directly. Teacher will post written feedback (or video feedback if demonstration is needed) in the classroom or by personal message from the classroom. Homework assignments are optional but encouraged so that individual feedback can be provided to each singer.
No live meetings, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Students will need to record themselves each week and upload to the classroom. This can be done easily right in the classroom with the 'Record Video' tab.
