This course has no live meetings-- its is a flexible schedule class and meets weekly to explore abstract painting. Children will be introduced to the painting genre: abstract expressionism- which explores visual interpretation, expression and emotion through color, brush-strokes, lines and shapes, and mixed medium techniques. No prior painting or drawing experience needed-- children will have fun in this course experimenting with paint, medium and personal expression and style. Expectations for this Flex Class Each week, I will post a recorded class session for everyone enrolled in this flex course to view when convenient. I ask that your child checks in with me via the classroom section to upload pictures of their work and to ask any questions. I also would like each learner to view their classmates work when posted and make a comment about it. Lets be positive and supporting here! :) Some ideas to make comments about when posting to me about your work, could be: Introducing yourself and where you are from! And... Why you painted with certain colors...what are your favorite colors...what you liked about this weeks project, what you did not really like about it, what you thought about the abstract artist's work that I presented for the week. Please upload your work and comments for each week's project by using the title of the lesson, so everyone knows which project your artwork is pertaining to- for example: Project 1: Intro to Painting or Project 2: Painting on Canvas: Shapes & Lines. Each week we will explore a new technique sometimes using paintbrushes and/or our hands while experimenting with painting medium- such as : adding salt, sands, oils, water, and sometimes ink to our paints. Children will work on a variety of surfaces, such as: canvas, canvas board, paper, wood, cardboard and found materials. We will broadly examine a few famous abstract artists that are known in this genre of painting: abstract expressionism.
