US Grade 6 - 9
In this 4 week flex class, students will learn strategies and practical tips for 4 important skills that will serve them well in school and in life. Learners will learn how to choose and use a planner, how to implement time management strategies, how to take great notes, and how to put those notes to use to study. Plan: In week one of this course, students will be introduce to several types of planners and the pros and cons of each one. We will then talk about how to use them effectively and some tips on how to make sure they follow their plan. Students will interact in a discussion post and share which planner would work best for them, and any tips they found helpful. They will also be able to share other strategies that have worked for them with other learners. Students will use the following week to fill out and practice using a week of their planner. In week two students will learn 4 important time management skills. This is where they begin to put their planner to use! They will learn to how to set goals, prioritize those goals, create strategies to achieve them, and schedule them in their planners to make sure they achieve their goals and don't run out of time to finish assignments. This week students will set a goal for something they would like to achieve this week. It can be anything from keeping their room clean to getting a good grade on a test. Students will upload an audio or video detailing what their goal is and how they plan to implement the 4 skills learned this week to achieve that goal. Students will then be able to respond to peer uploads and share any tips and encouragement they have to help the other learners reach their goal. Students will also share how they did using their planner for the previous week. In week three of this class students will learn note taking strategies. We will discuss formats, styles, shorthand, and other important note taking skills. Students will be given 2 practice activities to put their note taking to use. One will be a page of written information to practice their shorthand from a visual slide. The other will be an audio lecture where they can practice taking notes from a speaker. Each student will then get the opportunity to create a 2-3 minute video OR a 2-3 paragraph written upload to share with their classmates. Each learner will then choose one of their peer's uploads and respond to it with a sample of their note taking in response. In the fourth and final week of this class, students will learn valuable study skills. They will learn about different types of learning and be able to determine what type of learner they are. Then, we will discuss different studying strategies for all types of learners. They will learn about creating a study space and how to study for various subjects. Students will also learn how to create a Quizlet. The assignment for this week is to create a Quizlet to share with their peers about different things we have covered in this course. Students will then test out at least one of the other Quizlets and share their thoughts and how they did.
Learning Goals
Students will leave this class with the knowledge and confidence to plan, manage, take notes, and study their way to success in school and beyond.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Miss Izzy and I was definitely born to teach. I have a General Studies degree that covers topics such as teaching and learning, psychology, and humanities. Learning can, and should, be a lot of fun! I am always excited about trying something new, and I love to help others learn new things as well. I, myself, was a very interesting student, and that really helps me to be able to cater to a large variety of learning styles. I am more than happy to accommodate all students to the best of my ability. I believe that learning should be equitable and accessible to every student who has the desire to learn. Let's talk about your learner and how we can work together to meet their needs!
I offer a variety of classes such as Greek Mythology, Beginner Spanish, Reading Tutoring, and School/Life Skills.
I have lived in Guatemala off and on for a little over 9 years, and it taught me so much more about teaching in various ways. I also operate a nonprofit in Guatemala that works in a rural village educating those who do not always have the opportunity to attend school.
Before I started teaching online, I worked for a national literacy non-profit as a Site Coordinator and a tutor. I worked with both elementary students learning to read and helped train the volunteers that came in to tutor them.
I have 2 delightful dogs who love to snuggle with, Sammie and Odyss, and I really am so excited to be your teacher!
