IMPORTANT NOTE: This is a FLEX class- therefore no live meetings of this course will occur! Welcome to my FLEX writing class! This class is designed for any self-directed learner to work at their own pace. This is an excellent choice for both homeschoolers or a busy student who wants some extra writing practice after school hours as well! In this class, learners will be able to develop their skills with answering those tricky essay questions! The steps of answering a writing prompt will be shared, along with some tips and tricks along the way! This asynchronous course will support you in writing an essay through bi-weekly writing prompt questions. NOTE: If you took my summer essay writing camp, this class will cover different material with different writing prompts! I'd love to have you in my class again! :) The first week of this flexible schedule class will cover an introduction to essay writing provided via prerecorded video. A simple writing prompt with step-by-step directions for extra practice will be given in a PDF format. All additional weeks will be used to practice individual writing skills via Google Docs. Learners will be provided bi-weekly essay prompts on their Google Doc and DAILY feedback will be given via comments on individual student Google Docs which learners will see in real time! The breakdown of weeks is follows: Week 1: Introduction to essay writing (pre-recorded video) and step-by-step practice prompt Week 2: Independent practice prompt #1 Week 3: Continue/finish independent practice prompt #1 Week 4: Independent practice prompt #2 Week 5: Continue/finish independent practice prompt #2 Week 6: Independent practice prompt #3 Week 7: Continue/finish independent practice prompt #3 Week 8: Independent practice prompt #4 Week 9: Continue/finish independent practice prompt #4 **If learners work through their prompts at an accelerated pace, additional practice prompts can be provided!** I truly believe that every student can learn. In my years as a special education teacher, I have assisted many struggling writers. My style is enthusiastic and uplifting. I feel strongly about the importance of positive reinforcement and verbal praise in sessions. I will keep your learner engaged with fun ways to grasp concepts and interact with material. I teach using both verbal and visual models and aids. While we answer essay questions using Google Docs, we will also work on improving vocabulary, grammar, and spelling in our writing. Learners will walk through revising and editing essays to produce a final response. YouTube links may be added to our Classroom Posts for specific topics discussed (such as using complete sentences, revising/editing) with short clips to further explain examples for each concept visually. I will provide writing visual aids to save for future reference! In addition to frequent feedback via Google Docs, learners can also ask questions and interact within our Classroom Posts and Outschool messages. Learners will work at their own pace with assistance, encouragement, and positive reinforcement from myself in an asynchronous format. For this FLEX class, students should have some basic knowledge of writing complete sentences and answering a writing prompt. However, we will work through all steps from beginning to end.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their ability to answer essay questions/writing prompts using varied vocabulary and proper grammar, punctuation, capitalization, and spelling.
