What's included
Homework
1-2 hours per week. I do not like repetitive problems and assignments. Throughout this course, I will give various types of assignments with some having a creative writing aspect. Usually, very simple creative writing activities in order to spark the interest of writing. On the day of class, all videos and assignments including handouts will be uploaded into the classroom.Assessment
To evaluate the work I will look over uploaded/evaluate assignments and give feedback. Students will typically grade handouts in class because this is a great way to learn. The very last class is a review. I also offer a live class at the end so that I am able to assess how the students have done in the class. I can give you a letter grade if you would like.Grading

NOTE: This is not the live class. This is a FLEX class. It is for 4 weeks with content (a video lesson and assignments) dropping twice a week on Mondays and Thursdays. I have taught school and tutored for many years. You are probably familiar with the grammar groans from your child/ren. This may be the answer to curing the grammar groans. I love grammar and I believe that is because I was taught this method back in 7th grade. After that, it became very easy to understand and find the patterns that help grammar make sense. Once I began teaching students this method, I noticed the students picked it up and understood it very quickly. Parents and students alike have told me through the years how easy grammar was for the student through high school and college. In this course, students will be taught the six sentence patterns that make learning and identifying parts of speech a breeze. Students will be keeping an English notebook to write the notes I give to them during every class period. This notebook is key to helping them down the grammar path. We will also be doing some light diagramming of sentences. **A Note on How I Teach a Flexible Schedule class: -In a flexible schedule class, there are class video lessons, discussion boards where students will be encouraged to contribute, video links to view based on the topic, and activities, posted weekly where students interact with each other within the Outschool classroom. All material will be posted within the platform. -Students can post videos, copies of their work and or photos and respond to each other. Each class will vary in size and therefore each lesson and or discussion may vary in the amount of interaction. Students can respond to the discussions at different times. Outschool has learners from all over the world and each learner has a different schedule. -As the teacher, I will respond sometimes by video so that students can hear and see me. Mainly, I will respond by a typed answer. I also will respond to every student within 24 hours of their posting. I will evaluate and share my thoughts about the completed assignments. To begin this course, the students will need to learn their prepositions. This is key to the success of the rest of the program. The parts of speech that we will cover in this course include: nouns, verbs (different types of verbs), direct objects, indirect objects, predicate nominatives, predicate adjectives, articles, subjects, predicates, adjectives, adverbs, and prepositions (with prepositional phrases.) Schedule of Classes: Class 1 - Prepositions (I offer a separate exciting class on prepositions called "Grammar Treasure Hunt! Penguins & Prepositions in Antarctica (Virtual Field Trip"). This class will teach the importance of prepositions, recognizing prepositional phrases, and begin work on memorizing the prepositions which are the first major tricks to making grammar easy. Several assignments will be given. Class 2 - N-V sentence pattern will be explained. Students will use their prior knowledge of prepositional phrases to help in finding the sentence pattern in sentences. They will be writing in their English notebooks and take a quiz. Homework assignments will be given. Class 3 - N-V-N2 sentence pattern will be explained. Identifying direct objects will become very simple after this class. Students will write notes, take a quiz, go over homework, and interact with each other as we make English grammar fun. Homework assignments will be given. Class 4 - N-V-N3-N2 sentence pattern will be explained. In this class, students will learn about indirect objects. Class 8 - This will be a review with practice sentences that I will do. Students will have a handout that they can follow along and do with me. There will also be a jeopardy game link that I will provide. Students will interact with each other and me both privately or in the classroom by posting on the classroom discussion boards any completed writing assignments and worksheets for me to grade. I will also be including videos of myself giving the answers so that the student can grade their on work and correct as they need to. Sometimes I will grade in the class video and sometimes your child will receive a separate video for grading. Feedback (and if requested grades) will be given for all submitted assignments. Any questions can be sent to me through the classroom either privately or publicly for other students to see.
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to locate different parts of speech. This can be so challenging which is why they groan when it is time for English. I have had so much success in the past with this course not only teaching in a classroom but also private tutoring. This course will allow your child to not see grammar has their most hated class.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Master's Degree in Education from Southern Adventist University
I have had a high demand from local homeschoolers over the years asking me to tutor an English grammar course. I have taught this course in school to 5th-8th graders for 13 years and then tutored homeschoolers when I quit teaching all with great success. Many parents don't like teaching grammar, but I do and know how to make it easier to understand all while adding a human interest touch to the class.
