Learn to Read & Spell: K & 1st Consonant Blends (Cl, Bl, Gl, Fl, Pl, Sl)

In this self-paced class, learners will practice forming words using initial consonant l-blends. Learners will practice phonics, reading, spelling, writing, and phonemic awareness as they create an interactive notebook page for each blend.

Homework
1-2 hours per week. Learners will engage with a variety of educational materials designed to reinforce their understanding of reading and decoding words that start with l-blends, including: Flashcards: Helpful for memorizing and recognizing l-blend words. Worksheets: Provide structured practice to apply reading skills. Sorting Activities: Encourage students to categorize words based on their initial l-blends (cl, bl, gl, fl, pl, and sl). Online Games: Interactive platforms that make learning fun while enhancing word recognition and decoding skills. These resources aim to support learners in mastering l-blends effectively.
Assessment
An optional Kahoot game will be used as weekly assessments.
Grading
Learners have the opportunity to take a Kahoot quiz at the end of each lesson. Learners will have the opportunity to use this as a grade (if desired). Grades will be posted on Fridays.

Class Experience

US Grade Preschool - 1
This Self-Paced class is designed for learners that already know how to read CVC words (cat, run, bus, etc) and are looking for the next level of reading skills. This class focuses on L consonant blends (cl, pl, gl, fl, bl, sl). Instruction will focus on one blend per class. Learners will learn the sound first and then practice reading words using the sound. Learners will practice reading, writing, and spelling each word as they create an interactive notebook page. Learners will learn 8-10 words per week. 

How does this self-placed class this work? 
This class is a Self-Paced class, so there are no live meetings. Each week, a recording  will be posted, introducing the weekly blend.  The video will be recorded as if your learner is in a class. The beauty of self-paced classes is that learners are able to stop, rewind, and even rewatch the lesson. 

What does each lesson include?
(1) Interactive notebook page related to to the blend (to be completed with the video) 
(1) Instructional video that goes over letter sounds, blending, writing, and spelling
(1) Sorting practice page
(1) Writing/Spelling page
(1) Set of flashcards
(1) Kahoot game

How will learners apply what they learn? 
During the recording, learners will complete a visual for their interactive notebook. After class, learners will be directed to Kahoot for fun educational activities to apply what they learned. Learners will receive feedback based off their work completed on the Kahoot activities. An account is not required for Kahoot. 

What is an interactive notebook? 
An interactive notebook is a learner made notebook that visualizes reading skills in charts, flip charts, graphics, and more! After class, the interactive becomes a resource that supports the learners' reading development.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
Parent guidance is required due to the use of scissors. Parent guidance is also required for the use of Kahoot. A Kahoot account is not required for this class.
