This course will take learners on a journey to master the essay writing process beginning with topic sentences and ending with a multi-paragraph essay.

Extra time is added to each session to allow learners to move at their own pace. 

Learners will use a topic wheel to randomly determine topics for writing throughout the course and post results and comment on peer results in a $1 adjacent group that will be used throughout the course for teacher and peer interactions. In the group, students will be encouraged to share a topic sentence, a paragraph, and their final essay in video or written format and comment on at least 2 of their peers' posts.  They will engage in group discussions sharing their understanding of the essay process and parts, what part they think will be easy for them, and which part they think will be difficult. Topic sentences and paragraph writing  weeks will include a chain writing activity. 

Learners will get extensive feedback, guidance, and encouragement from the teacher throughout the course. They will be able to watch videos to help understand and use templates and outlines for topic sentences, paragraphs, outlines, and their multi-paragraph essay. They will learn how to use a google doc to get teacher feedback and address and resolve editing suggestions.

The course breakdown is as follows:
     Week 1: Topic Sentences
               watch the teacher videos, post an introduction video in the group, spin the wheel and practice writing a sentence daily, turn in sentence for teacher feedback, post one topic and sentence in group and comment on 2 peers, write three words in a chain topic sentence writing activity
     Week 2: Paragraphs
              watch the teacher video, post video of what you think will be easy and what you think will be hard, spin the wheel, and practice writing a paragraph daily, turn in paragraphs for teacher feedback, post one topic paragraph in group, and comment on 2 peers, write one sentence in a paragraph writing activity
     Week 3: Essay Process, Parts, Types, and Outlines
              watch the teacher videos, post video explaining the process and parts of essay writing and comment on 2 peers, post a video sharing what you think will be easy and what you think will be hard, and comment on 2 peers, spin the wheel for essay type and topic, create outline and pass in for teacher feedback, participate in a Word Cloud creating activity on a teacher supplied topic
     Week 4: Essay Writing- Drafting
              watch the teacher video, draft your essay in a step-by-step process with teacher feedback, post a video discussing your experience with the drafting process and comment on 2 peer posts, read and contribute to creating and completing a scavenger hunt in an example essay
     Week 5: Essay Writing- Revising and Turing In Final Essay
             watch the teacher video, revise essay and turn in for teacher feedback, write final essay, share essay in video or written format in group post, comment on 2 peers, post a final video discussing the process and what you learned in this course, comment on 2 peers, contribute in completing group scavenger hunts using peer essays

By the end of the course, students will have gone through a step-by-step process of writing to produce a strong multi-paragraph essay.  They will get comfortable addressing peer and teacher feedback.
