CLASS HOLIDAY POLICY FOR MS. STACEY’S FLEX CLASSES

Holidays are very personal to each person. Sometimes a student will not take a class that crosses a holiday. Please touch base. I am VERY flexible with dates. If your family celebrates a holiday that a FLEX class ‘meets’, let me know and I’ll extend the class on the week that you need to be out, your materials will be posted the week you return.

As we walk into the end of the year Holidays, know that I will be adding a week to each session that crosses Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's. I will NOT add those dates until we cross the Holiday, all work that would have been due the holiday week, will not be due until that make-up week.

In this Level 2 of the Full English Language Arts Curriculum, a 12-week 5-day class - we will cover all the Language Arts bases. This class will cover Spelling, Reading, Grammar, and Writing, and will include weekly assignments that can be turned in on the computer and Self-Grading Tests.

While asynchronous with no LIVE classes, this class is very interactive. Each week there will be videos and quizzes, games, or inspirational lessons to play with. I am very active in the classroom with comments and personalized videos to help your student on their path.

Every family will work a little differently with the material, however, the structure of the class follows a certain organization. All videos and materials to be printed will be uploaded by midnight on the day of the Lesson. On Friday, all keys for the lessons will be uploaded, and so will the tests.

Our days will be organized like this:

Monday: Spelling - spelling will include a video lesson and a personalized spelling list to study independently.

Tuesday: Reading. In this 12-Week course, your student will explore 4 great books with me through discussion questions in the classroom posts and classroom videos.

Wednesday: Grammar. Grammar will include a video lesson, independent work, a key to the independent work, and an online test.

Thursday: Writing. Every week your student will produce some writing; everything from journals and creative writing to more formal essays. We will post these in the classroom and in google form submissions.

Friday: Round-Up. On Fridays, there will be no NEW lessons. There will be keys so that your student can check their work. Deadlines to help them learn to schedule their time and online tests to help track their progress.

Please expect to watch a 10-30 minute Lesson video and complete an assignment that takes between 10-30 minutes each day, Monday through Thursday. Expect your Friday homework checks and tests to take between 30-45 minutes.

Parental Guidance
While there is nothing scary here, this is a printed materials heavy class. I've done my best to make most of the tests available in a digital format, however, in both grammar and spelling, there is a packet for each week. Many of my students need help with the printing of these materials. We will also use the website Kahoot.it periodically. Mostly for practice for spelling and grammar. This is used as a game that links off-site to Kahoot. Students will be able to see names in the final count down if two students are playing at the same time. I suggest using nicknames or first names only. Links to Google Docs MAY be used to turn in Writing Assignments at the discretion of the parent. There will be a video in our classroom about several ways to turn in assignments. I use Google Forms for tests and quizzes that need to be submitted. There will be a link to an off-site form that is submitted privately to me. Students will not be able to see each other in any way. Due to file size, all FLEX classroom videos are posted on YouTube and embedded into the Outschool Classroom. Your student need never leave the classroom, although I do suggest showing your student how to expand the video screen.
Supply List
Most material will be printable and provided with the cost of the class. Please make sure that you have paper and ink ready. Many lessons require 3-5 sheets of paper.

I have tried to make as much of the material available digitally as possible. The reference material does not need to be printed, but your student will need to be able to access the online book. (You can print it, but it is over 30 pages at the writing of this class.)

Your student will need a binder to organize their paperwork.

Your learner will need their own copy of the books below. Please feel free to use the library or digital editions of the books. I do not recommend audiobooks for this class simply because we are building reading fluency and seeing the words really helps with solidifying the words in the memory. I am including Amazon Links merely for reference. These are not affiliate links.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have taught for over 30 years at this point. I started as a corporate trainer training, at the time, high-end IT classes. I went on to homeschool my children through high school, an endeavor that took 16 years. During those years I ran several Co-op classes for junior high and high school Language Arts, Public Speaking, and Drama. I also created Scene and Heard Performing Arts, a live homeschool Drama Club for ages 5-18. I am very familiar with upper elementary, middle school, high school, and adult learning.
