Welcome to my reading curriculum FLEX class! This class is designed for any self-directed learner to work at their own pace. This is an excellent choice for both homeschoolers or a busy student who wants some extra reading practice after school hours as well!

In this class, we will be developing elementary/middle school reading skills. During each week of class, there will be 2 topics covered:

1) The first topic each week will be a literature story with reading comprehension questions to go along with it. There will be vocabulary practice/activities using words from the story provided as well. Reading stories and accompanying comprehension questions, and vocabulary practice and activities will be provided in PDF format (with a corresponding answer key). Comprehension questions will be assigned via a weekly Google Form as a form of assessment to determine understanding of the story read!

2) The second topic of each week will be a new reading comprehension/language arts topic. A pre-recorded video will be provided each week where I will teach the reading comprehension/language arts concept. Practice questions for the covered reading comprehension/language arts concept for the week will also be given via PDF format with an answer key. In addition, learners will be provided with a weekly Google Form that provides a form of assessment for the understanding of the reading comprehension/language arts concept of the week.

**NOTE: Google Forms automatically grade to provide immediate feedback!

Learners will have the opportunity to discuss each topic and ask questions within our Classroom Posts and Outschool messages. Learners will work at their own pace with frequent assistance from myself in an asynchronous format.

I truly believe that every student can learn. In my years as a special education teacher, I have assisted many struggling readers. My style is enthusiastic and uplifting. I feel strongly about the importance of positive reinforcement and verbal praise in sessions. I will keep your learner engaged with fun ways to grasp concepts and interact with material. I teach using both verbal and visual models and aids.

This flexible schedule class will have frequent asynchronous interaction between learners and myself via the Outschool classroom. I will provide constant feedback and encouragement through video and classroom posts! Each week will have a similar format structured around the reading story and reading comprehension/language arts concept(s) of the week. YouTube links will be added to our Classroom Posts with short clips to further explain examples for any concepts visually. I will also provide a note sheet/"cheat sheet" for the reading/language arts topics of the week to save for future reference!

This FLEX reading class does not require any required experience or knowledge. Learners and their families can utilize my class as their reading curriculum program, or as extra reading practice!
Learning Goals
Students will learn comprehension skills by reading stories. Students will also learn different reading/language arts topics as listed above.
