Class Experience

US Grade 5 - 8
This course is designed to learn how to write an effective paragraph that will turn into, hopefully, a minimum of five (5) paragraphs over the course of the class. We will have open discussions through feedback conversations and the teacher will video herself providing feedback, as well to students. Some students need the visual feedback from teachers on what it means to write an effective paragraph. For example, sentence structure, topic sentences, supporting details and a conclusion.

Students will have the option to share their writings with other students for student-to-student interaction through the Outschool platform. Students may upload a video reading their writing or they may upload the paper itself. Either option will be accepted if the student wishes to share and receive feedback from their peers.

Possible external sources could include Nearpod for lesson content, unlisted YouTube videos from the teacher, Flipgrid for interactive video assignments, Kahoot for quizzes, Activity Learn for assignments, etc. Students are not required to have accounts. They will be provided links and then we'll complete the tasks. These tasks are for the lesson, comprehension, and interaction.

We will use different methods of interaction between the student and the teacher. These methods will include Nearpod, Google Docs, and other relatable resources that would be beneficial each week. For example, students will be able to upload their weekly writing with Google Docs and the teacher can help with revisions, ideas, grammar, spelling, comments, etc. Another example would be using Nearpod where students can complete polls (for example: Have you been so excited that you wanted to shout it from the roof-tops?), quizzes, and slides to interact with the teacher. This class is built strong interactions between students and the teacher. The teacher will upload content into the classroom At least three times per week. The student will have access to communication with the teacher at least three times per week, Monday through Friday.

Students have much to write. They have a wealth of information, whether it is from small moments in their life or other personal stories they would like to share. Students are eager to put those those to paper. The best way to enhance a student's writing experience is to give them ample mini-opportunities to write.

This course is designed to provide structured writing experiences that will lead students to improved writing skills.

Each student will receive a starter prompts. For example, "What would you do if you were a monster and you found a baby?" Then, the student will write about it. A minimum of five sentences will be required for an effective paragraph. As the students are continually enrolled in the class, those students will be expected to write more than one paragraph. By the end of the course, the goal is for those students who have been continually taking the course to write an entire short story from beginning to a conclusion.

Topics to write about include, but not limited to:
     * What if a bathtub encountered a crown at a bus stop?
     * Sports: If a baseball (or other sport of interest) could talk?
     * Music: Where is that sound coming from?
     * Movies/TV shows: If you could write a TV show or Movie, what would be the plot?
     * Pets: "OH, No, My pet ran away?" or " want a pet."
     * Foods: How to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich?
     * Travel: An Alien came to my birthday party
     * plus many student directed topics

Students will be able to privately meet with the teacher during the week through email, messaging, and/or private video. The teacher will provide feedback twice within the week (email, messaging, and/or video feedback) in order to give the student feedback and a chance for the student to revise and resubmit. Ideally, the student will complete the assignment within a week, but the teacher will be flexible if need be.

The class will be interactive and lighthearted. The students will guide the learning and the teacher will be the facilitator. I believe we should learn at least one new thing a day, including me. I hope to learn from the students, as well as the students learn from the teacher and each other.
Learning Goals
* Students will be able to use their imagination and create a complete paragraph and, then, a story
* Students will be able to correctly spell and use grammar techniques
* Students will broaden their sentence structures into more complex and compound sentences.
* Students will have fun and guide the course. The teacher is a facilitator.
* Students will be able to have open discussion.

Hello. My name is Teacher Tanya.

Greetings,

I am Teacher Tanya, a dedicated educator with a rich personal and professional background.

In my personal life, I fulfill roles as a devoted wife, a mother to nine children, a grandmother to sixteen grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Teaching, reading, and traveling in my RV are my passions.

Central to my philosophy is the belief that continuous learning is essential for personal growth. I advocate for acquiring new knowledge daily to enrich our lives. As an educator, I employ the 5 E's approach—Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, and Evaluate—while also emphasizing the importance of "Extend" in teaching.

Regarding my education and experience, I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Child Development and have pursued extensive coursework towards a Master's Degree in Education: Curriculum and Instruction. Additionally, I possess a Master's Degree in Business Administration. Call me crazy, but I am currently working on a Doctorate is Education: Organizational Leadership.

With fifteen years of experience owning and operating state-licensed and accredited preschool, childcare, and school-age centers, I have a solid foundation in education. I have, also, served as a substitute teacher for middle and high school students, including fulfilling long-term positions in core academic subjects.

Having dedicated over 25 years to working with children in both classroom settings and extracurricular activities, I have taught a diverse range of subjects such as English, Reading, History, Math, Science, and ESL, to students with diverse abilities.

I appreciate your time in reviewing my profile and consider it an honor. I eagerly anticipate the opportunity to meet your child and your family.

Thank you.
