Week 1Lesson 1The Simple Sentence & CUPS Strategy for EditingStudents will practice identifying simple sentences versus incomplete sentences and correcting them using the CUPS strategy. Students will compose a variety of simple sentences based on various writing prompts.Week 2Lesson 2The Compound Sentence & CUPS ReviewStudents will practice creating compound sentences using a comma and a coordinating conjunction.Week 3Lesson 3The Complex Sentence & Comma UsageStudents will learn about creating complex sentences to add variety to their writing. Students will practice composing complex sentences while adhering to comma usage rules.Week 4Lesson 4Detailed Writing & Precise LanguageStudents will practice omitting vague language and use 'WOW' words to elevate their sentences.
This class is taught in English.
Students will be able to: 1. Identify and Compose simple, compound and complex sentences. 2. Demonstrate sentence fluency by using precise language and sensory details to evoke meaning. 3. Adhere to the conventions and mechanics of standard English by editing work before submission.
