In this 8 week flex class, students will continue learning piano skills. This is a continuation from Class #2 and adds scales, arpeggios, and chords. Students are taught these skills through a variety of songs and activities.

Class experience

Students will continue their musical education by learning more advanced musical skills. They will learn the melodies (using both hands), chords, arpeggios, and scales in the first half of the Faber "Accelerated Piano Adventures For The Older Beginner" Lesson Book (Book 2). Students will have fun learning to play songs and using these skills in order to composing simple rhythms and melodies.
I am a retired public school music teacher. I graduated from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC with a Bachelors of Music Education. I have taught music to all grades in the public school system, but spent most of time in elementary and middle school music. I have taught private piano lessons for many years in my home to all ages, ranging from 5 years old to adults. I have taught online for more than 5 years and enjoy this a great deal! I am also certified in Reading and ESL and enjoy working with all ages of students.
Homework Offered
Each week, learners will be encouraged to upload a video of themselves playing one of the songs they have learned that week. They will also be encouraged to learn the songs on the assigned pages, and complete worksheets (creating rhythms, note identification, musical composition) that are sent home each week. Interaction with other students and teacher will be encouraged through online activities.
1 - 2 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Students are informally assessed on their knowledge of the material taught through their video submissions. No letter grade is given.
