Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 5
Beginner Level
"I like this class because it makes me happy to find the parts of speech. This class has made language arts classes easier." - Isaac age 10

If you would like your child to be able to know and be able to find the 8 parts of speech in any given passage and have fun doing it, then this class is for you!

With a mixture of videos, posts and printouts, I will teach a part of speech in each lesson of Unit 1. We will come up with a list of questions to ask to figure out if a word is a noun or verb, preposition or adverb. At the end of the course we will have generated a whole list of questions, prepositions and conjunctions!

In a gentle, Charlotte Mason manner, we will use sentences from classic children's books to find the parts of speech. Each lesson will build on the other. So by lesson 8 students will be looking for all 8 parts of speech!

In Unit 2 we will put our new found knowledge to work! Instead of sentences, we will use whole paragraphs to locate the parts of speech. This is what will really prepare students for the "Learning Grammar Through Literature" course.

Passages and our lists can be found in the links I will post for each lesson.

And...as an added bonus, I will post some "extras". Questions to encourage discussion about books students are reading and have read. I really hope to share a love of literature with each and every student!

We will take excerpts from the following books:
The Boxcar Children
Charlotte's Web
Little House In The Big Woods
Sarah, Plain and Tall
The Velveteen Rabbit
Peter Pan
The Lion The Witch and Wardrobe
Black Beauty
The Secret Garden
The Hobbit
Edith Nesbit's Beautiful Stories From Shakespeare
