Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 6
Beginner Level
Finally, a self-paced version of my Cakes in a Jar class! Enjoy the flexibility of choosing when to complete your Rainbow Cakes project.

Together we will make colorful rainbow cakes in a jar from an easy box mix or homemade cake mix. Students can decide whether to make a full rainbow, rainbow unicorn colors, their school or favorite team colors, holiday colors, or any other combination! Great for prepping for a themed party!

In my video lesson, I will walk through each step and provide tips and details along the way. My overhead camera angles will provide an excellent visual for how the process is done.

I recommend using 8 ounce mason jars, because they are great for individual serving sizes - but this can be flexible. If you don’t have the recommended size, you can use any size mason jars for your cakes - or you can even use a regular glass cake pan if you wish. Using an oven-safe glass bowl or pan will create more of a tie-dye or swirly effect.
My suggestion is to use 8 of the 8 oz jars, or 4 of the 16 oz jars. You can also mix and match or use other oven safe glass.

I am so excited to see your pictures of your cakes! Be as creative and as artistic as you want to be!

Learners should have the ability to crack eggs and use a hand mixer (or have an older helper nearby to assist as needed). Students will also be using the oven, so parents should be sure that the student knows how to safely operate the oven and handle the hot contents after baking is complete or have parents available to help.

Hello, I'm Ms. Jes!

In my classes, kids unleash their inner artist using favorite characters and games that I’m just as passionate about as they are. We explore spontaneous creativity and embracing “mistakes”. Let’s start drawing outside the box!

I am most passionate about teaching art and learning in unique ways. My approach to teaching infuses encouragement and optimism while having fun and connecting with a new generation over shared interests. Every child is special and celebrated for being who they are! No matter the class, I believe in positively approaching learning and finding joy in it.

• Outside of Outschool, I founded a nonprofit youth performing arts academy in 2015.

• I live in the beautiful Midwest of the USA with my husband and two children.

• If you need financial assistance, please don't hesitate to message me, and I will do my best to offer a reduced rate whenever possible.
