Class Experience

We will learn more American Sign Language in this 4 week course. Each week, we will learn a different set of signs and master them. On Mondays, an instructional video will be posted. I will demonstrate the new signs we will learn that week. I will go over them slowly and explain how to them, as I am doing them. Students will need to watch the video and practice the signs at home. Students will need to record a video of themselves doing the signs and either post it under the instruction video OR send the video to me privately. On Wednesdays, a game video will be posted. I will do a video signing the signs we learned that week, without saying what I am signing. Each learner will need to write down their answers and either post them to the thread OR send their answers privately to me. All work should be submitted by Fridays.

In this four week course, we will continue to learn about American Sign Language. It is highly recommended that you complete the four parts of Beginners with Mrs. Emily and the four parts of Intermediate with Mrs. Emily, before taking ANY advanced classes. If you have prior ASL experience and would like to take this class, please send me a message.

We will take a deeper look into ASL Grammar in these advanced courses and we will also practice vocabulary we have learned previously.
Our schedule is as follows:
Week 1: ASL Grammar Rules 1 through 5
Week 2: ASL Grammar Rules 6 through 10
Week 3: Examples of Rules 1 through 5
Week 4: Examples of Rules 6 through 10

Each week we will review what we did the previous weeks and we will practice more of the skills we have been learning. By the end of this course, each student will be able to identify each type of sentence and how it is to be laid out, and be able to procure an ASL sentence that is grammatically correct. I will give sheets with examples of sentences and words for receptive practice for students to practice at home and to use in class. For our second video of the week. We will continue to practice Sign Recognition and Finger Spelling Recognition. These are important skills that we will work on for a long time.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I took many American Sign Language classes. I had a few friends growing up who happened to be deaf. I learned sign language so that I could easily communicate with them and help them communicate with others who did not know ASL.
