There are NO Live classes, so watch videos and complete the activities on your own timeline. Content of this class is equivalent to a 2 to 3 day per week live class. Several teaching videos will be posted each week and will include: an introduction to each weekly concept. Repitition will be used to help learners retain concepts. Repetition is key in helping students retain information at this age. Short physical activities such as crossover type and rhythm exercises will be used at various times to help the students activate their brains even more as they learn and review. Worksheets and other activities will be uploaded into the classroom for learners to download and print to practice identifying and writing letters and numbers and more. Learner interaction will consist of them finding objects each week in their home or community that are the shape or color of the week and uploading a picture or video of the objects to share in the classroom. Teacher expertise and credentials
Alabama Teaching Certificate in Special Education
Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology/Pathologist from University of South Alabama
For over 30 years, I have been a speech-language pathologist working in public and private schools and with homeschooled students. I homeschooled my own children a total of 15 years. I have always loved using literature in my classes to reinforce learning of phonics, reading and comprehension/memory skills. I am also TESOL certified to teach English as a second language. Over the past 30+ years, I have taught many children phonics and helped them learn to read. For 3 years, I team taught a half-day preschool program for speech-language delayed students. I have worked with those who have learning challenges as well as those who are gifted. We always practice correct pronunciation of words in my classes if a student needs that extra help. I am also a certified brain fitness instructor and may incorporate brain fitness activites in some of my classes to aid in remembering content. We have fun learning! I would love to have your child in my class and look forward to meeting him/her soon.
