Class Experience

The focus of this class is to plan and draft a five paragraph, expository essay. Planning a writing piece is crucial for an organized essay. We will use a four square planning organizer to prepare for drafting our writing piece. Each class will provide time for direct instruction and co-writing on a group essay. Students will then be encouraged to apply what they have learned in class to their own writing. Students are encouraged to submit their homework to the teacher 24 hours in advance of the next class. This will allow the teacher to provide feedback and tailor the class to meet individual student needs. We will begin classes 2-5 with time for the students to share progress on their personal writing piece. This is optional, but encouraged. Proofreading and editing writing will not be an objective of this course, but small mini-lessons on specific topics may be included based on student need.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello families! My name is Sarah and I am excited to learn with you in the classroom! I am certified and licensed to teach both elementary (kindergarten-sixth grade) and secondary English (seventh-twelfth). I completed both my bachelor's and master's degrees in the education field and have eleven years of classroom teaching experience in a traditional school setting. The majority of my experience is working with intermediate grade students. I have experience working with students from a variety of backgrounds including English language learners, students with disabilities, and academically advanced students. My favorite subjects to teach are reading and math. I especially enjoy working with small groups of students to analyze texts in order to gain a deeper understanding of content knowledge and literature. I am also a mother to three young children, a daughter and twin sons. Our family enjoys begin outside, visiting local parks and playgrounds, going for bike rides, and visiting the beach during the summer. If you are interested in a class outside of the scheduled sections, please send me a message. I have a flexible schedule and most requests can be accommodated. I look forward to seeing you in the classroom soon!
